Senator Hillary Clinton (D)
Plans to expand FMLA to cover businesses with 25 or more employees (13 million additional employees), to provide grants to support workplace flexibility and telecommuting options, and to raise the minimum wage. She aims to require that all employers provide seven paid sick days per year, and wants to ensure better access to affordable child care.
Senator John McCain (R)
Plans to encourage employers to offer flextime scheduling, compensation, and unpaid leave for family emergencies. He also plans to offer federal tax incentives to help families save for college. In a 2004 Project Vote Smart survey, McCain supported increasing funding for national job-training programs and providing tax credits for businesses with child care (in 2008, however, he refused to provide responses to the same survey). read more...
